Functions: Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid, It is
a building block of all the other amino acids as well as a key component
of bile acid. Taurine is found in the central nervous system, skeletal
muscle, heart muscle and eyes of mammals. It is very concentrated
in the brain and heart muscle.
It has inhibitory neurotransmitter, maintains nerve cell membrane
stability, and helps prevent brain cell over-activity, so it has
protective functions on the brain and heart.
It also has functions in the gallbladder, eyes, and blood vessels
and appears to have some antioxidant and detoxifying activity. Such
as Taurine helps gallbladder function by forming tauracholate from
bile acids; tauracholate helps the digestion of fats, absorption
of fat-soluble vitamins and increase cholesterol elimination in
the bile, so it has the protective functions on the liver and gallbladder,
increase the faculty of sight.
It aids the movement of Potassium, Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium
and Zinc in and out of cells and thus helps generate nerve impulses,
and prevents loss of Potassium from the heart muscle.
Uses:1. On foods: used as nutritional supplement.
a. It is used in dairy products, foods for infants, grain products,
bean products, complex gourmet and fortified beverages (0.3~0.5g/kg),
milk drinking, drinking water (0.1~0.5g/kg)
b. It is suitable for a nutritional supplement of newborns for
feeder of nonmother milk and new mothers (Taurine containing in
human milk is 3.3~6.2mg/100ml, but only 0.7mg/100ml in milk).
c. It is suitable for a nutritional supplement of the mental worker.
It is favorable for development the brain intellect and the faculty
of memory (0.3~0.5g/day). Vegans who eat no dairy or eggs are recommended
2g of Taurine taken three times per day for a total of 6g per day.
2. On medicine:
a. It is used to help treat congestive heart failure, ischemic
heart disease, arrhythmias, especially arrhythmias secondary to
ischemia, cardiomyopathy epilepsy, anti-convulsant, hypertension,
cystic fibrosis, diabetes, cirrhosis and liver failure etc.
b. It can be used for the treatment of cold, fever, neuralgia,
tonsillitis, bronchitis, rheumatic arthritis and drug poisoning
etc.
3.On feed: used as a nutritional supplement of pets.
Taurine is an essential amino acid for the cat, which means that
the cat cannot synthesize sufficient Taurine from other amino acids.
We suggest that its nutrient requirements for cats, added a minimum
of 0.2% Taurine in the diet for grown, reproduction and adult maintenance.
